SCIP stands for structural concrete insulated panel. A rigid insulation core is wrapped in welded steel reinforcement, then concrete is applied to both faces on site. The result carries structural load, insulates, and forms the wall — one assembly instead of framing, insulating and sheathing as three separate trades.
The distinction from neighbouring systems matters when you are specifying. A SIP is a structural insulated panel with wood sheathing, so the structure is wood. ICF leaves a form in place around poured concrete, so the insulation sits outside the structural wall. A SCIP puts concrete on both faces of the insulation, which places mass on the interior side of the assembly as well as the exterior.
