Get matched with a licensed proHiring a general contractor in Shadow Hills means hiring the person who coordinates everyone else — schedule, subcontractors, permits, inspections and the order things happen in. On a job with more than two trades, that coordination is most of what you are paying for, and it is the part that is hardest to judge from a quote.
The most useful question you can ask is who will actually be on site and how often. A general contractor running four projects is not necessarily worse than one running one, but you should know which you are hiring, and who to call when something needs a decision that day.
CSLB defines Class B (General Building) as a contractor whose principal business involves structures requiring at least two unrelated building trades. It is the broadest residential classification, which is why it is the one most often needed when a project crosses trades.
Each contractor listed holds an active licence in that classification at a Shadow Hills address, and the number links to the CSLB record. The register is also where a suspended or expired licence shows up, so it is worth a second look before a large payment, not only before the first one.
None of that tells you how a contractor handles the part of the job nobody quotes for: the wall that is not where the drawings said, the fixture discontinued between order and delivery, the inspector who wants something changed. These happen on most projects. Ask for an example from a recent job and how the cost was settled. A contractor who describes a change order process — written, priced, signed before the work proceeds — is telling you something the register never will. One who says surprises do not happen on their jobs has either not had many jobs or is not describing them accurately. Check too that the licence name matches the entity on your contract.
Every licence number below links to its record at cslb.ca.gov, where you can confirm status and expiry yourself.

When the job crosses two or more unrelated trades. A single-trade job — just plumbing, just roofing — can go to a specialty contractor licensed for it. Once trades have to be sequenced against each other, coordination becomes the job.
That the contractor is currently permitted by California to do this work, and that the state holds a record for them. It does not speak to quality, price, insurance or reliability. Those come from references, a written contract and seeing finished work.
Most multi-trade residential work routes through LADBS for plan check and inspection. Ask your contractor to name the permit numbers and inspection sequence before work starts.
