Home Remodeling Contractors by city
Whole-home remodeling in California is less a single job than a sequence of them, and the value a good contractor adds is mostly in the order. Structural and rough-in work first, inspections at the right moments, finishes last. Rearranging that order to get a visible result early is the most common way a remodel goes long.
Ask for the schedule in writing with the inspection points named, and ask who is on site daily. On a project measured in months, the difference between a contractor who runs their own crew and one who subcontracts every trade shows up in how quickly problems get answered. Neither is wrong; you just want to know which you are hiring.

Get matched with a licensed proClass B-2 (Residential Remodeling) is the classification CSLB created for exactly this work: improvements and repairs to existing residential structures requiring at least three unrelated building trades. A whole-home remodel is the archetype the classification describes.
Each contractor here holds that licence, active, at a California address, with the number linked to the CSLB record. Because these projects run long and cost the most, it is worth checking the record again before each major payment, not only at the start.
None of that speaks to how a contractor runs a job over several months, which is what a whole-home remodel actually tests. The register has no field for whether calls are returned, whether the site is swept at the end of the day, or whether a change order arrives before the work or after it. Ask for references from projects that ran at least three months rather than short ones, and ask those homeowners what the worst week was like. Long jobs all have a worst week; how it was handled is the most useful thing you can learn before signing. Ask too who holds the schedule — the owner, or a project manager you have not met.

Licence first. References second. Reviews last. Why that order.
Get matched with a licensed proCSLB defines Class B-2 (Residential Remodeling) as work on existing residential wood frame structures involving at least three unrelated building trades. It is the classification most often held by contractors doing whole-home and multi-room remodels.
The register lists 0 with an active licence in this classification at a California address. The count is read live from the register, not a stored estimate.
Both are licensed for residential remodeling. Class B general building contractors also build new structures, so they are common on larger projects; B-2 is specific to remodeling existing homes. Which suits you depends on scope, not on one being ranked above the other.
A written scope, a schedule naming the inspection points, three recent references you actually call, and a current certificate of insurance you verify with the insurer. The licence number lets you confirm the rest is being told to you by someone permitted to do the work.
Structural, electrical and plumbing changes typically require plan check and inspections through the building department with jurisdiction over your address. Confirm the submittal path for your address before demolition starts.
