Room Addition Contractors by city
A room addition in California is a structural project wearing a decorating brief. Before anyone talks about finishes, someone has to answer whether the existing foundation and framing can carry the load, where the new roof ties into the old one, and whether the addition fits inside the setbacks your parcel allows.
That means the early money goes on drawings and approvals, not materials. Expect a design phase, a plan check with the building department with jurisdiction over your address, and structural inspections at framing. A contractor who quotes a firm price before plans exist is quoting a guess, and you will meet the difference later as change orders.

Get matched with a licensed proAdditions to an existing home sit inside Class B-2 (Residential Remodeling), the classification CSLB defines for improvements to existing residential structures involving at least three unrelated trades. A Class B general building contractor is also licensed for this work, and on larger additions is often the one who takes it.
Every contractor listed holds an active licence in this classification recorded at a California address, with the number linked to the CSLB record. On a project this size, check the record before you pay a deposit, and keep the deposit within the limit California sets for home improvement contracts.
The register also cannot tell you whether a contractor has built an addition on a parcel like yours. Hillside lots, older foundations and additions crossing an existing roofline all behave differently, and experience with one is not experience with another. Ask how many additions they completed in the last two years, whether any needed structural revisions after plan check, and what happened to the schedule when they did. A contractor who talks openly about a plan check that came back with corrections is describing normal practice, not confessing to a problem. One who says it has never happened is either very lucky or not answering the question.

Almost always. Adding floor area changes the structure and the footprint, so the building department with jurisdiction over your address will want plans and a plan check. Confirm the process with them directly — requirements differ between cities and unincorporated areas.
California caps the down payment on a home improvement contract at 10 percent of the contract price or 1,000 dollars, whichever is less. A request for substantially more than that is worth questioning before you sign.
