Get matched with a licensed proHVAC work in California sits at the intersection of comfort, energy code and electrical load. Replacing a furnace with a heat pump is not a swap — line sets, breaker size and duct capacity all have to be evaluated on site.
Title 24 compliance applies to most equipment changes in California. A contractor who quotes equipment only, without mentioning permit and compliance documentation, is leaving half the job undefined.
Zoning mismatches — one thermostat controlling two sun exposures — show up as comfort complaints after install. Ask how the contractor proposes to split zones on your floor plan.
Class C-20 (HVAC) — warm-air heating, ventilating and air-conditioning — is the CSLB classification for installing and servicing HVAC equipment. It is separate from refrigeration for commercial coolers and from electrical for panel work. Return air pathways through closed doors and short duct runs affect noise and efficiency as much as equipment SEER ratings.
Each contractor here holds an active Class C-20 (HVAC) licence recorded at a California address. Equipment swaps in California typically need permits through the building department with jurisdiction over your address, so confirm that path is in the quote. Refrigerant line insulation in unconditioned spaces prevents condensation that damages ceilings below the line set route. Ask for a room-by-room load summary because oversized equipment short-cycles and undersized equipment never catches up.
The register cannot tell you whether a firm sizes ducts with a calculation or rules of thumb. Ask to see the load calculation for your house before equipment is ordered. Duct sizing that is too small for the blower creates noise and frozen coils, and load calculations should justify register sizes.
Mini-split line sets have maximum run lengths and elevation limits. A layout that hides the condenser far from the air handler may exceed manufacturer limits and void warranty.

Get matched with a licensed proInstalling or servicing HVAC equipment requires Class C-20 (HVAC). Electrical circuit work may need coordination with a C-10 contractor depending on scope.
The register lists 0 with an active Class C-20 (HVAC) licence at a California address.
Most HVAC change-outs in California require permits and Title 24 compliance forms filed with the building department with jurisdiction over your address. Unpermitted work can complicate a future sale.
Ducts with collapsed sections, asbestos wrap or mold growth are candidates for replacement. Sealing is appropriate when the layout is sound but leaky.
Duct leakage tests are part of Title 24 compliance on many projects. Ask whether sealing and testing are included, not assumed.
